Bottom image: Jennifer Boykin, Ljubica Arceneaux, author David Bierdrzycki, and librarian assistant Andrea Walters Introduction Ljubica Arceneaux is the librarian at Rosewood Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina. She was my supervising librarian for my internship. I spent five days with her over the course of the Spring 2024 semester. During my time with her, I was able to observe different aspects of school library operations such as collection development, programming, administrative work, teaching, and organizing the library environment. For this interview, we focused on the AASL Standard of "Explore.B.2.-- Create--Providing opportunities for tinkering and making." I really like that Sphero's website included grant funding. A huge roadblock in building strong makerspaces for many libraries is the lack of funding for the resources when you take into account what all has to be purchased and renewed each year. It seems like Sphero understood that when they included information on grants. I also appreciated the premade lessons and units because that takes away some of the intimidation factor when adding new technologies.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great information on Sphero. I like that you started out with classroom ideas and resources. I was not familiar with Sphero, and having a visual early on helped me. Showing us the website was also a good idea. I love knowing that there are grants available!
I thought you did a great job throughout your video of evaluating and explaining the features of the Sphero throughout, including recommending age groups for certain features. You told us what you liked about the website and what is helpful, so I know not just what this tech is but also how it works and how it would be best to use it.
I’m interested in makerspaces, but it is tech like Sphero that seem a little out of my depth. You made it seem very usable, and I will be bookmarking some of the resources you shared.
Thanks!
